On Tuesday, 655 new test-positive COVID-19 cases were announced by the provincial health officials of British Columbia, which brings the total number of active cases in BC to 6,045.
Since the pandemic began, the province has tallied 166,068 COVID-19 cases.
Health Minister Adrian Dix and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry disclosed in a written statement that of the recently documented cases, 187 individuals are presently under hospital care, where 103 of them are recuperating in the intensive care unit. The rest are at home in self-quarantine.
A breakdown of the newly recorded cases can be seen below:
- Fraser Health: 186 new cases
- Interior Health: 242 new cases
- Island Health: 68 new cases
- Northern Health: 60 new cases
- Outside of Canada: No new cases
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 99 new cases
Moreover, there are two new deaths linked to COVID-19 in BC, which brings the entirety of fatalities to 1,816.
Health officials also stressed that unvaccinated individuals accounted for 88.7% of hospitalizations and 80.2% of cases in the province. In addition, 157,941 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have already fully recovered.
