Lockdowns are Harming the Society Instead of Helping It During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Says International Finance and Data Expert.

Speaking in front of the attendees of the recently held BizNews Investment Conference in South Africa, international finance and data expert Nick Hudson believes that the series of lockdowns imposed by governments worldwide is causing more harm to the people instead of helping them overcome the pandemic.

Hudson, the co-founder of Pandemics – Data & Analysis or PANDA, pointed out that infant mortality, creeping poverty, starvation, and joblessness are just some of the grim results of the lockdowns recommended by policymakers and enacted by governments across the globe.

“We are now dealing with a horrible specter—especially among the youth—of psychological disorders,” Hudson pointed out. “With the incidents of self-harm, suicide and suicidal ideation expanding to levels that have never been seen before.”

He also observed that one and a half billion children had their education effectively terminated or at least severely disrupted. This problem is even true for the few children of the wealthy who were able to attend classes online.

He added that with online classes requiring additional tools and devices for a student to participate fully, it is not uncommon to see children from poorer parts of the community struggling to keep up. Most of these poor children don’t have the necessary equipment to get in on these online classes.

On the subject of why lockdowns are being implemented, Hudson said that they aren’t about preventing the transmission of COVID-19. Instead, he stressed that it is about “quarantining the healthy.” The finance and data expert also emphasized that the imposing of large-scale quarantines, border closures, school closures, mask mandates, social distancing, and similar measures seem pointless because the numbers of infected individuals are still surging until now.

And with the Delta variant of the virus getting in the picture, reported cases of infected individuals are still going through the roof despite the mandates of lockdowns.

“The effective measures are, pretty much, limited to the isolation of the sick and hand washing, the stuff we’ve always done,” Hudson reiterated. “Measures to generally suppress the spread of the disease have the effect, reliably, of shifting the disease burden onto the vulnerable.”

Hudson concluded that lockdowns are one of the reasons why people are dying during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he also stressed that they are pointless and should be omitted in the policies of governments worldwide altogether.

“They worsen, are expected to worsen and do worsen coronavirus mortality,” he added. He also reminded that it is already high time to “reopen the society.”
