The province of Alberta is now offering a $100 incentive up for grabs to eligible residents when they have their first or second shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a news release issued by the provincial government on Monday, eligible residents will get a $100 debit card upon registering for their first or second jab. Moreover, it was announced that the incentive is only one-time and offered to all residents of Alberta age 18 or older.
The news release also disclosed that the said incentive could only be availed of between September 3 and October 14. As provided in the province’s official website, “everyone who has registered by October 14 at 11:59 pm and has a valid vaccination as outlined in the eligibility and rules will receive a debit card.”
The eligible residents can claim their one-time $100 incentive by visiting the webpage alberta.ca/VaccineDebitCard after getting their COVID-19 vaccine shot. Individuals are advised to be accurate when providing the necessary information since Alberta Health will cross-check them with provincial immunization data.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is tasked to handle the distribution of the pre-filled debit cards. The first 15,000 residents are expected to receive their one-time incentive sometime in October. The succeeding cards will be dispensed in November and December.
Alberta’s Minister of Health, Tyler Shandro, said that the incentive is just one way of encouraging more and more people to have themselves vaccinated because they “offer the best protection from COVID-19.” He also added that the “more Albertans we can encourage to get vaccinated, the safer all of us will be.”
