    1,168 New COVID-19 Cases Were Tallied in Alberta on Friday

    On Friday, the health officials of Alberta announced that a total of 1,168 new COVID-19 cases had been recorded in the province.

    It was also revealed during the announcement that the figures for the infected individuals in the region are seen to have climbed significantly since last week, with 589 recorded test-positive cases on Thursday.

    Several of the persons who tested positive for the virus within the past few days were also ascertained to have been infected with a new variant. The health officials of Alberta did not specify which one during their announcement, though.

    Of the recent cases logged in Alberta, 336 are under hospital care, and 74 are recovering in the intensive care unit. The announcement also disclosed that there are four additional COVID-19 fatalities in the area.

    As of date, there are 9,655 active COVID-19 cases in Alberta, with 7,359 of which are classified as new variant cases. Thus, the total death toll in the province is at 2,364.

    Since the pandemic began, the province of Alberta has tallied 248,954 confirmed cases of COVID-19, where 236,935 individuals have entirely recuperated from the infection.

    Alberta has already administered 5,528,420 shots of the COVID-19 vaccine so far since August 26.
