Albertans Say Yes to Keeping Daylight Saving Time in Recent Referendum

The results garnered by Elections Alberta reveal that a slim majority of the residents of the province would like to retain the daylight saving time in a referendum issued on August 9, 2021. The question raised to the electors is as follows: Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Remarkably, 49.8% of the Alberta residents who participated in the referendum answered yes. But a slender yet still popular vote comprised 50.2% of the electors who voiced their opposition through their “no” votes.

According to Elections Alberta, a total of 1,092,960 Albertans participated in the said referendum. Moreover, 47,211 ballots were either deemed as rejected or blank.

The provincial government of Alberta previously announced that the result of the August 9 referendum is going to be binding. Therefore, given the referendum’s official results, residents of the province will have to roll their clocks back an hour this coming November 7.
