When Calgary city councilor Jeff Davison tweeted some renderings of the new Calgary Event Centre, the response from fans wasn’t that “lit.”
Davison tweeted the artistic depictions of the new arena early this morning, which is set to replace the iconic Saddledome in 2024.
Highlighted with a flame emoji, the councilor tweeted: “The new Event Centre continues to evolve and take shape!”
However, the fans don’t share the same excitement and anticipation with Davison.
Apart from describing the new building’s design as “similar to a water treatment plant,” one person also commented that it is a combination of “an airplane hangar and a boring suburban hotel.”
The bottom line is that the Saddledome has been the home of the Calgary Flames since 1983, and the team needs a new arena. The Saddledome is second in line to the Madison Square Garden in New York for the oldest NHL arenas.
